ThE player's flEEt is centered 0n the Mothership, the destructi0n 0f which results in an immediate Game 0ver in a single-player game, and is a critical loss in a multiplayer game. The M0thership is capable of constructing all but the very largest ships, which must be built using Shipyards [the game states these are built at orbital facilities and arrive via hyperspace]. The M0thership can als0 build Carriers, which themselves can build any ship fr0m the Fighter, Corvette and Frigate families. Alth0ugh the Mothership is initially the center of new resrch, Carriers and Shipyards can build their 0wn on-board Resrch Labs.
